Somatic Wisdom Traditions

Somatic wisdom draws from ancient wisdom traditions that have long recognized what modern neuroscience now confirms: the mind and body are inseparable. Our experiences — emotional, cognitive, and spiritual — live not only in our thoughts, but in the nervous system, breath, posture, and felt sense of the body.

Rooted in the Latin soma, meaning the living body, somatic wisdom refers to the body’s innate intelligence — the ways we sense, respond, remember, and orient toward balance and healing. Across contemplative traditions such as Buddhism, Christianity, Vedanta, Daoism, and Sufism, as well as philosophical inquiry, wisdom has been understood not as belief or theory, but as something known through direct experience.

What has drawn me to these traditions is their emphasis on experiential learning. Wisdom, in this sense, is lived and felt. Through practices such as yoga, meditation, breathwork, and rest, understanding arises not through effort or analysis, but through listening inwardly and slowing down.

My intention is to share these somatic wisdom traditions as practices we can explore together — at a human pace. This work comes to life through individual and small-group yoga offerings, as well as workshops and retreats, where the body is invited into the conversation and healing unfolds through presence, rest, and embodied awareness.
