yoga

Hatha Yoga, as traditionally defined in ancient yogic texts, is a system of ethical principles, physical postures (asanas), breath extension (pranayama), and meditation aimed at aligning body and mind. As a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher with over 20 years of personal practice, I've experienced firsthand the transformative power of yoga.

As a regular practice, yoga engages the body and mind, offering an experience that is both accessible and grounding, as well as formless, expansive, and spacious. Through yoga, we can gain a deeper perception of our inner world, which, in turn, enhances our connection to life and other beings. In essence, the practice can teach us how to navigate life in a mindful and sacred way.

I have been a lead trainer for 200 hour yoga teacher training programs since 2020 with Prana Shanti Yoga Studio in Ottawa. I specialize in teaching the historical and philosophical roots of the Yoga tradition. I am certified in Iyengar Yoga and teach weekly classes in this lineage. Please read more about this wisdom tradition below.

About Iyengar Yoga

At the core of Iyengar Yoga lies the principle of lifelong learning through self-exploration.

What sets B.K.S. Iyengar’s teaching apart is the focus on alignment and precision in yoga postures (asanas), along with the innovative use of props to make the practice accessible to all individuals, regardless of age, flexibility, or physical condition. In this tradition, asana is not simply physical exercise — it is meditation in action, a profound way of disciplining body, breath, and mind toward stillness and awakening. Just as Mahatma Gandhi devoted himself to the single principle of ahimsa (non-violence) as a path to liberation for India, B.K.S. Iyengar devoted himself to the limb of asana from Patanjali’s eightfold path, revealing it as a complete and transformative gateway to realization.

Iyengar Yoga is more than technique; it is a lineage, handed down with depth and integrity, emphasizing both the spiritual and therapeutic dimensions of practice. Becoming an Iyengar Yoga teacher requires 3–5 years of intensive training, attracting only the most dedicated practitioners. This rigorous process, combined with a globally standardized certification, ensures the high quality and authenticity of teaching consistently seen in the Iyengar tradition.

“ Yoga is meditation in action”
